Client Spotlight - Liz Greeen

Liz Greeen is a long-time friend of Bee’s Knees Print Studio.
I met Liz in Denver years ago while I was looking for a tattoo artist to do a half sleeve of some funky comic book stuff. I’m a stubborn guy, so when Liz bossed me around on the phone after I asked about pricing five hundred times, a pretty strong impression was made.

From there, Liz tattooed me for hours at a time over and over and we developed a really strong friendship that I value very highly. As Bee’s Knees grew, Liz was always there to get me out of a bind, push me to get better, and help me with criticism and opinions from an artist that I’ve always relied on to be better at what I do.

Here’s some stuff we’ve made for Liz over the years.

Lightning Kid.

This is a three color print on black Next Level 3600 tees. Liz provided me with a wonky scan of an old photo and asked me to recreate it.
This was one of the first halftone prints I’d ever done, so it’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it forced me to improve my exposure times, printing methods, and registration standards. There have been a ton of iterations of this print, including some that Liz customized with bleach, and I get so excited every time I see someone wearing one.

Slippy Chains.

This is a two color print on black Next Level 3600s. The idea here was to print as big as I possibly could, with the smallest impact from the ink on the feel of the shirt. We started with discharge inks, but ended up falling back on soft hand plastisol in white and pink to ensure consistency and wash-fastness

Anaglyph Hands.

One of my favorite thing about Liz’s art is their hands. Hands are notoriously hard to capture, but Liz always does them well.
This is a two color print with water-based ink on white 100lb paper. These were a kind of surprise for Liz, and the idea was to emulate the headache-inducing effect of 80s red/blue 3D effects.
